Weekly Summary. Week 49, 2023.

On Wednesday, December 6th, President Alberto Fernández bid farewell to the employees of the Casa Rosada during a ceremony held in the central hall. With a glass of champagne in hand, he reviewed his tenure at the government headquarters in his own particular way. This Sunday, at the National Congress, Dr. Javier Milei was inaugurated as president, accompanied by leaders and representatives from many countries.

President Fernandez bids farewell to the employees of the Casa Rosada

The central hall of the Casa Rosada was decked out as if for a celebration, much like a family going through tough times gathering without realizing they were about to party. Thus, the employees of the Casa Rosada and the Argentines watching on television listened in bewilderment to Alberto Fernández's account of his administration, which seemed more like a script from Narnia or a film only he wanted to see.

As he left, it was pathetic to see the absence of a crowd to greet him. So much so that, due to his quick departure, the head of the military household was unable to give the final protocol salute to the man leaving a country in flames.

His administration ended with an annual inflation rate of 150%, a currency devaluation of 1500% against the dollar over four years, and 45% of the population living in poverty.

The prices of basic food baskets are increasing by 25 to 30% per week. Similarly, fuel prices are also rising.

Today, a large number of formal sector workers cannot afford to feed themselves. Those who can afford it cannot choose what they want to eat.

Those who can choose what they eat cannot save. Those who cannot save cannot grow.

All this occurs under the watchful eyes of union leaders who, for four years, in collusion with the government, not only failed to fight for their workers but now threaten social protests against the newly inaugurated president.

Never before has Peronism generated such hunger, fatigue, poverty, and cultural destruction. Only 16% of young people finish high school on time. The Fernández government used the National Printing Office like a Ferrari, accelerating at 300 km/h.

Today, it needs to be slowed down. This machine cannot brake within 10 meters.

Adjustment is the word most frequently repeated by President Milei in his inaugural speech, which did not diminish his popularity; it is precisely this honesty that brought him to this moment, endorsed by 55.6% of the electorate.

His pulse did not falter in detailing the state of affairs left by the previous government to all citizens.

Thus, the abstinence and difficulties that lie ahead are due to the indifference of those who made the State their own source of wealth. Encouraging collective rights, inclusive language, the persecution of thought—a whole cocktail of anesthetics—was used to chain a part of society with subsidies and privileges, making them believe that state aid is the only thing necessary to live.

The new president begins his fight accompanied by leaders and representatives of the free world, facing two crucial challenges to open the doors of freedom: reducing the budget deficit and stopping inflation. These are two issues that will force him to manage the social crisis they might trigger.

Unlike previous adjustments, the president proposes that the burden of these measures fall on the State and the privileges of politicians, rather than on the private sector.

When he and Victoria Villarroel, his current vice president, entered the Chamber of

Deputies two years ago as the only members of their party, they were told they would not go far.

Milei responded by quoting Maccabees 3:19: "In battle, victory does not depend on the number of soldiers, but on the strength from heaven that God provides."

Believe it or not, Milei and Villarroel have arrived.

Let us hope that the forces of heaven accompany the Argentines so that they can overcome this situation and finally embark on the path to irreversible prosperity.
